how books make us feel
Bibliotherapy is a burgeoning field still full of questions. The field fascinates me because it’s an exploration of how books and literary narratives can help us heal. As the daughter of a pharmacist, I’m pretty excited by the concept of prescribing a narrative, thought I’d like to go even further and explore whether books can inspire us to grow in positive directions, whether they offer practical ways to open our worlds, and whether they can exercise our abilities to empathize and connect. I’m full of questions, in other words! And while bibliotherapy techniques are still being developed, I’ll be updating this page to feature books that continue to guide me.
In the meantime, a few bibliotherapy resources:
- Kate Whiting writes about bibliotherapy for depression
- Sara Lindberg explains how stories can be therapeutic
